Fort Morgan, Colorado, April 23rd, 2019: Viaero Wireless is once again this year’s title sponsor for the Pedal the Plains cycling tour. This year’s route will showcase the towns of Lamar, Holly, and Springfield, Colorado. The tour will begin on September 13th in the town of Lamar and progress to Holly. Day two will consist of a 73.7-mile ride from Holly to Springfield before circling back to Lamar on September 15th. The entire route will span a total of 168.3 miles.
At the announcement given by Colorado Governor Jared Polis on April 16th, he expressed how the tour is an opportunity to “showcase how many of our departments make significant investments to make our Eastern plains thrive” and see how the Eastern plains “make an important economic impact on our whole state.” Deirdre Moynihan, Tour Director for Pedal the Plains, stated that this year cyclists may even “get to see a tarantula migration” near Springfield.
Along the route, cyclists will view the Comanche National Grasslands, the Sante Fe Historic Trail, and portions of Kansas. Those interested in participating in this year’s event can register for the entire three days or pick one of the days along the route. 2019 marks the eighth year that The Denver Post Community Foundation will host Pedal the Plains. Each year features a different set of communities along Colorado’s eastern plains in celebration of the state’s origins in agriculture and frontier culture.
