Lamar’s population is made up of nearly 8,000 residents and sits in southeastern Colorado, 108 miles east of Pueblo and 129 miles southeast of Colorado Springs. Born from a railroad depot along the Santa Fe Trail in the mid-1800s, the city got its name from Lucius Quintius Lamar. Lucius was Grover Cleveland’s Secretary of the Interior at the time of the city’s founding.

Adoption of high-speed internet service in rural areas can add value to the lives of residents and community-based services. While many recognize access to broadband and other forms of high-speed internet can help improve rural economies and healthcare services, the adoption of high-speed internet can also help increase community involvement. Although residents of rural communities tend to have higher levels of engagement, involvement levels increased even more when residents used the internet, according to an Oklahoma State University study.

The town’s motto, “City of Pride and Progress,” is a testament to the grit and dedication of the area’s residents.

Brush, Colorado is a community of close to 5,500 residents, located on the eastern plains 58 miles from Greeley. The city’s slogan is “Hometown Happiness,” which represents the area’s close-knit and neighbor friendly feel. As the mayor, Rick Bain stated, “we certainly are a community of great human resources.” Brush is a city known for its “can do attitude,” reflected in the exclamation point following its name.

The Spring Fire began on Wednesday, June 27th in Costilla County, Colorado. According to Denver-based Channel 7 News, the fire is currently the largest burning blaze in the state, covering over 56,800 acres. With only ten percent containment as of July 3rd, several highways into the area remain closed. Evacuations and pre-evacuations are also underway in Huerfano and Costilla counties.

Embarking upon a singing career is something up and coming country star Lexi Larsen knew she wanted to do from the age of four.
